A Fantastic Opportunity for ...

The Teaching Assistant is a vital member of the SKDS team, responsible for providing high-quality support to children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The primary goal is to facilitate the academic, social, and physical development of students, ensuring they can safely access learning and integrate into school activities through professional and compassionate care.

Core Responsibilities

1. Student Support & Care

  • One-on-One Assistance: Provide dedicated support to assigned students during lessons, transitions, and activities.
  • Holistic Wellbeing: Take full responsibility for the student’s daily routine, including health monitoring, snack/lunch assistance, and toileting/hygiene needs.
  • IEP Implementation: Understand and execute Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and assist students with adaptive or assistive technology as required.

2. Classroom & Clinical Support

  • Instructional Support: Work under the guidance of Special Educators and Therapists to deliver specific intervention programs.
  • Session Preparation: Organise materials, set up activities before sessions, and ensure designated learning areas are clean and organized.
  • Resource Management: Assist teachers with the preparation of classroom materials and ensure utilities (lights/AC) are turned off after use.

3. Monitoring & Collaboration

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs of student progress, observations, and behavioral incidents.
  • Communication: Share critical information about student needs with educators and therapists to ensure a unified approach.
  • Team Flexibility: Assist in other classrooms or areas during free periods or as directed by supervisors to ensure smooth school operations.

Operational Duties

  • Punctuality: Arrive at school before 8:00 AM and return from lunch by 12:55 PM.
  • Welcoming: Assist with student arrival and morning greetings.
  • Safety & Supervision: Ensure student safety at all times in classrooms, playgrounds, during transit, and on off-school site visits.
  • Continuous Learning: Take detailed notes during training sessions and apply those techniques in follow-up sessions.

Academic & Experience

  • Education: A strong academic track record, preferably a degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience handling children with disabilities is a significant advantage.
  • Language: Ability to communicate and understand instructions effectively in English.

Performance Indicators

Success in this role is evaluated quarterly based on:

  1. Student Progress: Observable improvement in the student's engagement and social/academic participation.
  2. Accuracy: Consistency in following IEPs and supervisor instructions.
  3. Reliability: Punctuality, attendance, and adherence to SKDS safety protocols and administrative policies.
  4. Collaboration: Effectiveness in working with the broader SKDS multidisciplinary team.

Terms

  • Notice Period: A 1-month notice period is required for resignation from this position.
