Responsible for all the work and functions in the kitchen area. To ensure smooth performance of all works related to kitchen areas. Maintain food / Recipe Standard. Work closely with the sous chef “TBM” developing the special menu Daily operation management (Lead and ensure staff are cross trained to support successful daily operation) Excellent sense of taste (to keep the consistency of food quality) Hygiene, Food safety and regulation. Control and making the appropriate stock inventory Work on training staff and establishing a working schedule (Roster) for staffs’ performance. Effective communication is key for collaborating with the sous chef “TBM”, coordinating with other kitchen staff, and interacting with management. Strong interpersonal skills are also important for building and maintaining positive relationships within the team. Leadership and management skills are a must, she/he needs to oversee a team of cooks and are responsible for delegating tasks, training new staff, and maintaining a productive and efficient kitchen environment. CURATION & SELECTION ■ Review and oversee current and proposed book stock for product to market fit. ■ Review and approve all book orders. ■ Keep abreast of upcoming publications to ensure timely ordering and stock. BOOK INVENTORY CONTROL ■ Oversee receiving, processing and organization of incoming stock, manage returns, and maintain a well-organized books storage area. ■ Monitor stock levels and coordinate with merchandise teams to ensure optimal stock to meet customer demand and any requested titles from customers. ■ Meet display deadlines for new arrivals. STORE PRESENTATION ■ Develop an “editorial voice” for the store in relation to books and associated merchandise appropriate to market. ■ Ensure proper categorization, shelving and books arrangement. ■ Develop and curate promotional displays and features (reviews, thematic tables, lists, etc.) to drive sales. ■ Keep book areas organized and tidy to ensure an inviting environment. ■ Team Leadership & Management (25%) STAFF MANAGEMENT ■ Develop job descriptions and interview candidates. ■ Train and mentor book specialists with ongoing training and skill development. ■ Manage book staff hours and schedules. ■ Conduct performance reviews and address personnel issues. CUSTOMER SERVICE ■ Act as the primary Manager on Duty for the entire bookstore during assigned shifts, overseeing store-wide operations when the store manager and assistant manager are not on duty. ■ Serve as a subject matter expert, greeting customers and providing knowledgeable reading recommendations. ■ Understand customer needs and build trust through personalized recommendations and honest feedback. ■ Serve as first point of contact for large business-to-business and business-to-school orders to identify genre and title selections. MARKETING LIASSON ■ Develop book marketing plan and work with marketing and events department to insure on time delivery of any promotion and marketing initiatives. ■ Develop author and reader promotions such as author talks, book clubs and other events to foster a Tsutaya community.
Manage all beverage checklists Maintain cleanliness and proper control of all beverage stations and preparation areas. Ensure all equipment is clean, fully stocked, and in good working condition. Follow and monitor scheduled cleaning procedures for all beverage equipment and areas. Demonstrate strong knowledge of coffee machines and beverage preparation processes. Maintain comprehensive product knowledge for all beverage items. Prepare beverages strictly in accordance with beverage SOPs. Check and ensure quality standards for espresso, blended drinks, fresh milk, soda, and other beverages. Consistently follow and maintain standard store recipes to ensure product quality. Control beverage inventory and ensure sufficient stock is available for daily operations. Record and report beverage usage, waste, and transfers accurately. Monitor and control beverage consumption to minimize waste. Communicate and hand over all relevant information clearly to the next shift. Coordinate with the cashier regarding promotions, menu items, and product availability. Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and grooming at all times. Support the service team during non-peak hours to ensure smooth operations.
Creative Development Work with Marketing Manager and senior store team to identify campaign and creative objectives, market context and requirements. Contribute to design briefs with Marketing Manager to ensure clarity and alignment with objectives. Develop creative concepts and executions in response to briefs. Provide creative input and guidance throughout campaign planning and execution. Marketing Design (Digital and Print) Translate marketing briefs into engaging and impactful visual stories across digital and print platforms that excite and attract customers. Maintain website by posting new content as requested. Detailed coding or website development is not required. Design newsletters using email management software (Mailchimp) to deliver campaigns to customers. Shoot and edit short-form videos for publication on social media and other digital channels. In-Store Design Design and manage production of in-store physical signage and promotions including menus, signs, banners and flyers. Packaging design for in-house products. Produce short videos based on video and photography for in-store LED displays. Photograph products, working to develop creative approaches to product display. Cross-Platform Brand Adherence Adhere to Tsutaya and Ivy Tokyo Café branding guidelines. Ensure design consistency, evolving standards as needed. Stay current with industry developments, design software and new technologies. Ensure all creative outputs align with brand guidelines and business objectives. Continuously enhance and evolve brand identity and visual storytelling. Receive creative direction from the Marketing Manager covering concept brief, brainstorming, presentation, execution and final handoff, ensuring outputs are brand-aligned at every stage. Evolve and improve design standards, templates and guidelines. Maintain consistency across all design materials and touchpoints. Team Coordination and Collaboration 40% of total work Work with Marketing Manager, Store Manager and Merchandising Manager to define requirements and scope, and to align design strategies with business goals. Work closely with internal teams and external vendors and suppliers to ensure smooth production and timely delivery. Be responsible for design quality and final approval of artwork, ensuring high-quality output and brand alignment.
Sales & Customer Service Welcome and assist customers courteously and ensure high quality experience in bookstore. Recommend titles based on customer preferences, current trends, literary knowledge, book genres, bestsellers, new arrivals, and special promotions. Handle customer inquiries, resolve minor issues, address inquiries and offer curated suggestions and escalate concerns to the Supervisor when necessary. Promote loyalty programs, memberships, and value-added services (e.g. gift wrapping, book reservations) and upselling. Participate in PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) processes to promote operational enhancements. Store Operations Support visual merchandising and ensure the store is clean, organized, and well-stocked. Receive, unpack, and shelve new book arrivals and merchandise. Monitor stock levels and communicate replenishment needs. Assist with inventory counts and audits. Cashiering Duties Operate the point-of-sales (POS) system with accuracy and efficiency. Process cash, card, gift card, and digital wallet transactions. Handle returns, exchanges, and refunds in accordance with store policies. Balance the cash register and prepare daily cash reports. Store Upkeep & Merchandising Assist in arranging and replenishing book displays, feature tables, and promotional shelves according to merchandising guidelines. Follow up with sales floor, cashier counter, and reading areas are clean, tidy, and welcoming at all times. Assist in stock counts, monitor product shelf-life (if applicable), and report stock discrepancies or damaged items. Leadership Support Mentor and support junior sales associates in customer service and store operations. Lead by example in achieving personal and store sales targets. Step in to observe store operations in the absence of management.

Daily Store Operations Oversee daily opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, POS system reconciliation, and end-of-day reporting (Open shift and close shift). Maintain cleanliness, tidiness, and merchandising standards in all areas (book displays, reading corners, cashier counter). Ensure security protocols for merchandise, cash, and customer data are followed. Ensure compliance with company policies, store procedures, and industry best practices to uphold operational excellence. Participate in PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) processes to promote store operational enhancements. Team Leadership Supervise, coach, and support frontline staff in delivering excellent service to meet sales targets with efficiency and professionalism. Conduct on-the-job training for new hires and provide feedback on performance. Organize and supervise staff duty rosters, break schedules, and task delegation with Assistant Store and Store Manager. Inventory & Merchandising Monitor stock levels, manage replenishment, and participate in stocktaking exercises with the Merchandising department. Ensure book displays, feature tables, and promotional areas are well-organized and aligned with brand standards. Coordinate the set-up of seasonal displays and book launches/events. Reporting & Administration Assist in preparing sales, inventory, incident and discrepancy reports to MD team. Communicate operational issues, customer feedback, and staff concerns to the Store Manager. Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, petty cash, and daily operational logs. Other tasks as assigned by the Store Manager.
