Position Summary

Head Chef focuses on the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals in the canteen, working under the guidance of the Kitchen Supervisor. The role emphasizes culinary expertise, teamwork, and adherence to hygiene and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation

  • Prepare and cook meals according to the menu and established recipes.
  • Ensure that all dishes are visually appealing, properly seasoned, and served on time.
  • Assist in menu adjustments based on seasonal ingredients or customer preferences.

2. Kitchen Operations

  • Organize and maintain the kitchen workspace for optimal efficiency.
  • Ensure all kitchen tools and equipment are cleaned and maintained properly.
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean working environment.

3. Coordination & Teamwork

  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth meal preparation and service.
  • Report to the Kitchen Supervisor regarding inventory needs, kitchen issues, or staff concerns.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff on food preparation techniques.

Job Requirements

Education & Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training or certification preferred.
  • Food safety and hygiene certification is mandatory.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a cook or chef in a similar environment.
  • Experience in a canteen, cafeteria, or high-volume kitchen is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in a range of cooking methods and styles.
  • Ability to work in a team and take direction from supervisors.
